Today I attended the funeral of my Uncle Don who died this past week at 100 years of age. What an amazing man.
Harold Don Park peacefully returned home June 9, 2010, to his Heavenly Father, and to join his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara. Don humbly fulfilled his role as a husband, a father, a grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, and also as a provider, for 100 years. Born January 8, 1910, Don had built his family, his business, his garden, and his highly regarded character, with patience and diligence. With few words ever spoken, those that were, were filled with stories of fishing, of hunting, and his favorite topic, stories of when his father was a member of the Provo Fire Department.
In 1942, Harold graduated from Central Utah Tech, known today as Utah Valley University, with an Associates Degree in Heating and Sheet Metal. Two weeks later, he was drafted into the military. He then married Barbara on February 22, 1946, in Provo, Utah, and later sealed with their family in the Manti Temple on June 27, 1964. They were active and faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After serving as an officer in WWII at Fort Douglas with his wife, Don established the business Modem Heating and Sheet Metal, which has been continued by his three sons and several grandsons. Don and Barbara continued their later years courting by traveling to several different states, as well as countries. They also enjoyed outings with the Squaw Peak Good Sam Club. With a big heart, and strong hands, Don continued to work in his garden well into the later years of his life. His solid handshake, his gentle hugs, and his quiet demeanor, will genuinely be missed, but never forgotten.
His century of memories will continue to live through his family. Don is survived by his six children: Susan (Dave) Allen, Joan (John) Healy, Joseph (Nancy) Park, Brian (Jana) Park, Christine (Richard) Marshall, Drue (Shauna) Park, 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and many friends.
